Buying Canada Platinum Maple Leafs
Platinum Maple Leafs in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) grade are an excellent way to buy platinum bullion. Backed by the Royal Mint of Canada for weight and metal content, each coin contains a full troy ounce of .9995 fine platinum, making it one of the purest platinum coins available.
The Royal Canadian Mint began producing 1-oz. Platinum Maple Leafs in 1988. Production ceased from 2003 until 2009, when it resumed in order to meet increasing demand for platinum bullion among investors. Inscribed with a "face" value of $50, Canadian Maple Leaf platinum bullion coins are easy to buy or sell, and have been universally praised for their purity and quality of minting.
Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022 and the succession to the throne by her son, Prince Charles, a new design featuring King Charles III was introduced in 2024. In keeping with tradition, the left-profile bust presents the new monarch without a crown on his head, a tradition established by previous British kings on Canadian coinage. This replaced the right-facing bust of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Arnold Machin. The reverse depicts the traditional Canadian Maple Leaf image.
